From a deep personal journey of self-discovery to a simple yet life-changing laughter experiment, Rea shares how she found laughter to be the missing key to joy—and how this realization sparked the creation of Laughly, a platform designed to bring laughter into daily life as a powerful mindfulness practice.
If you had told me years ago that laughter would become my life’s mission, I might have laughed myself. And yet, here I am—building Laughly, a platform designed to bring more joy, playfulness, and well-being into people’s lives through intentional laughter.
Hi there, I’m Rea! I grew up in a rather small Swiss town, surrounded by a culture known for its structure and stability. While Switzerland offered security and opportunity, I always had a restless spirit. Travel became my gateway to discovering not just new places, but also new perspectives. I found myself drawn to cultures where joy was woven into everyday life, and laughter was as natural as breathing.
But even as I embraced adventure, something felt missing. Despite the freedom of sailing across oceans, I sometimes wondered: Was I truly happy? Was I appreciating life to its fullest?
One evening aboard my sailboat, I sat in deep meditation, seeking clarity. For years, I had heard wise teachers talk about opening the heart, but I struggled to understand how to do it. That’s when laughter unexpectedly became my answer.
I started to laugh—first gently, then more deeply. With every laugh, I felt my heart expand. It was a moment of pure joy, an unlocking of something I hadn’t realized was stuck. That night, I understood that laughter wasn’t just a reaction to something funny; it was a tool for presence, healing, and connection.
Curious about my discovery, I decided to test it. I set a timer for 60 seconds and forced myself to laugh, alone in my cabin. At first, it felt awkward. But then I heard my husband’s laughter from the other room—he had overheard me and couldn’t help but join in.
Before I knew it, we were both laughing uncontrollably. That one-minute experiment sparked a shift in our relationship. We realized laughter was more than entertainment—it was contagious, healing, and deeply connecting. Inspired by this, we started our own 21-day laughter challenge, making a daily practice of intentional laughter. The results? A lighter mood, deeper connection, and an entirely new perspective on joy.
That challenge planted the seed for Laughly. I knew that if laughter had this profound effect on us, it could transform others' lives as well. I began researching laughter therapy, neuroscience, and its effects on stress and mental health. The more I learned, the clearer it became: laughter needed to be accessible, intentional, and a daily mindfulness practice.
Laughly was born from this realization. It wouldn’t be just another app—it would be a movement to help people reconnect with their joy, one laugh at a time.
We live in a world where stress is constant and joy often feels secondary. But science tells us that laughter is one of the most powerful wellness tools we have. Research shows that laughter:
And yet, many adults hardly laugh at all. That’s why we build Laughly—to bring laughter back into our daily lives, not just as entertainment, but as an intentional practice for health and happiness.
Turning Laughly from an idea into a reality wasn’t just about building an app; it was about creating an experience that felt authentic, engaging, and transformative.
Finding the right team, refining the concept, and overcoming doubts were all part of the process. There were moments I wondered: Does the world really need this? But every time that question surfaced, I reminded myself of my mantra:
“Laughly will help millions of people become happier and healthier.”
That belief keeps me going through every challenge, every late-night brainstorming session, and every roadblock along the way.
Laughter should be easy, accessible, and part of daily life. That’s why Laughly is designed to make laughter a simple, effortless habit through:
We’re just getting started. As we refine the app, we continue to test, improve, and evolve, ensuring every feature truly enhances well-being. Our vision is clear: Laughly isn’t just an app; it’s a movement.
In the future, we plan to expand Laughly into live laughter events, interactive workshops, and even more ways to integrate laughter into wellness practices worldwide. The journey has only begun, and we are building something truly special.
We’re still creating Laughly, and I invite you to be part of this journey. Laugh more. Play more. Share joy. Because together, we can build a world where laughter isn’t just something that happens—it’s something we choose, every single day.
